We are foregoing donations at the moment pending the decision by DeKalb County CEO Burrel Ellis to issue permits. The DeKalb Board of Commissioners has taken a position on cell towers on DeKalb school properties, and it’s a thumbs down.
In a March 27 letter to CEO Burrell Ellis – signed by all seven members – the commissioners said the county should not ignore its ordinance unless it has been proven in court that they must ignore their adopted policy.
The commissioners – Elaine Boyer, Jeff Rader, Larry Johnson, Sharon Barnes Sutton, Lee May, Kathie Gannon and Stan Watson – said that if any private company applied for a building permit to erect a cell tower in a single-family residential district, it would be denied. “Therefore we respectfully recommend that the Planning and Sustainability Department not issue any building permits for the cell towers to the Board of Education, or any other property owner without the owner complying with applicable DeKalb County zoning law,” they said. No Cell Tower on School Grounds is a consortium of individuals, organizations, parents, and homeowners with a mission to unite to protect our children and community from the dangers of placing cell towers on school grounds. We strive to ensure a high quality of life for everyone in DeKalb County, Georgia.
It’s time for parents and homeowners to reclaim control over their neighborhood schools and demand a healthy and safe environment for our children to learn and our community to live.
We, the undersigned organizations, are concerned citizens urging our leaders to act now to reconsider the School Board’s decision regarding the T-Mobile Cell Tower lease at nine DeKalb County Schools based on insufficient notification, increase health risk, decrease property value and overall decrease quality of life.
Power concedes to nothing except power. But there is certainly power in numbers. The sister organizations to be commended in their joint efforts are Getthecelloutatl.org,
Nobriarlaketower.org,
and Briarcliffheights.org.
We welcome the support of any additional organizations to join in opposition of the matter.

Concern 1: Independent research shows an increase in brain tumors – malignant glioma.
Concern 2: Consistent Epidemiologic evidence of an association between childhood leukemia and exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields has led to their classification by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a “possible human carcinogen.”
Concern 3: Children are in particular danger from these emissions as their head sizes are smaller, their skulls are thinner and their bodies are still growing. A study is underway that will further evaluate the effects of cell phones on children. It can be reviewed at: http://www.mbkds.net (results due in 2013).
Concern 4: Those who live near cell phone towers are exposed to radio frequency radiation 24 hours a day. During that time there are higher and lower exposure levels. General symptoms include headaches, fatigue, concentration problems, dizziness, insomnia, depression, appetite loss, skin rashes, and discomfort.
Concern 5: Cell phone radiation damages DNA, an undisputed cause of cancer and male fertility is damaged by cell phone radiation. For medical research articles visit www.Getthecelloutatl.org
Any financial gain DeKalb County School System hopes to receive in return for cell tower leases would clearly not be worth risking the lives and health of our children and community. If cell phones are now rated as “possible human carcinogen”, we need to be concerned about cell phone towers!

Our children's health is our paramount concern!
There is absolutely no evidence that continuous exposure to EMFs are completely harmless to our children.
There was insufficient notification by the school board on this matter!
There has been constant stone walling and a utter lack of transparency regarding this matter. There was insufficient notification and input from parents and affected communities. Why is DCSS involved in cell phone coverage?
Schools and neighboring property values are at higher risk of decline!
Placing cell phone towers on DeKalb School grounds compromise the value of the school, the area properties, and the tax value garnered from current and future residents.
School county land for which we pay taxes towards, is to be leased to private industry at the expense of our children and communities!
Construction of a 60x60x150 cell tower would occupy land that is intended for our children’s academic growth and instruction.

Stop the $100 Million Dollar Waste in Our School System
We must stop the removal of over $100 million dollars from our school system BY THE state of Georgia. The local 5-mill share tax is the money removed from our school system to be redistributed to other school systems throughout Georgia.
